Yesterday Morning at approximately 11:30 AM, I signed an offer letter to begin work at Tippett Studios. Yes my friends, I am going back to work!!
After three months of crazy networking and searching, I will be joining Tippett Studios on Tuesday. (First week and it's a 4-day week, Boo Yeah!). Tippett Studios is one of the premier FX houses in the country and was founded by Phil Tippett who was the head of the creature shop on Return of the Jedi and later won an academy award for Jurassic Park. I will be joining as a production coordinator, which is a good start and Tippett has a great track record of promoting internally and quickly. It's a two-month (and a bit) project to begin with that I will be working on, and then we will take it from there depending on future needs, etc. But the company is great, it is right in Berkeley so it's only about a 20 minute drive for me (so no more hour and a half commutes like I had in New York), and everyone on the team seems really positive and enjoys what they are doing. I'm also really happy because with Tippett I didn't have a contact to start with. I was trying to get hooked up with them, but couldn't find any leads, so I just wrote a "feeler" email out of the blue, which they responded really positively towards, had a informational interview about two months ago and then kept in touch as they were trying to bring in more work. I am really excited, and I think it will be a great fit for my skill set and allow me the possibility for future advancement and movement.
Yeah forgive me if you've read that before. (There is only so many times I could type it out before I had to cut and paste) But I honestly couldn't be more excited about the opportunity. The company is fantastic, the people are great and it is in such a convenient area for me that I look forward to the short commute each day. I know that I will really be able to make an impact in the company and as mentioned, Tippett has an amazing track record of long standing employees who have been constantly and quickly promoted from within. Give it a bit and I'll be producing again. Plus I'm working on films now which I can't tell you how happy it makes me!!
I also believe that Karma played its own role in everything. The first time I met with Tippett (just about two months ago), there were no positions available, but I could get the sense that the people I met with really liked me, and I got just a great vibe from the company. The X-Factor out there was the job at the other company (still to remain nameless, though I'm sure you can figure it out) that I was being considered for. If said company offered me the job, I would have of course taken it, but would wonder if I would feel more comfortable at Tippett and visa-versa, had Tippett come through with an offer before the other company was ready to make a decision, I would have had a very tough time knowing what to do. As it was, two weeks ago I did receive the rejection from the other company, and low and behold a day after that rejection, I got the call from Tippett that something might have opened up. It allowed me the mentality to clear myself of the other opportunity and focus solely of what is now my new job.
Add that to the prophetic dream that my sister-in-law had and you have some crazy Karma working. She had a dream a month ago that I would receive some amazing job news upon my return from a New York flight. When I received the call two-weeks ago, it was right before I was flying home for my friend Mike's wedding, and because of such, I scheduled the follow-up interview for the day after my return flight from New York. Kinda scary, in a good way.
So there you go, now Stage 2 of this crazy California life is about to begin and I am totally ready and excited for the opportunity at hand. I am going to end this blog post now, because I have in front of me the golden opportunity to enjoy a few last days of freedom without having to worry about what will be the other side. It shall be a weekend of sunshine, movies (Indiana Jones), and good times! Thank you to all for you constant support throughout and I look forward to the next stage that this blog shall take. I will blog with you later.
-Nice Guy-
P.S. The great news has also resonated physically. This morning I had a fantastic 5-Mile run. While nowhere near my longest (I will be going for a good 10-miler on Monday), it was a great run and I could have run quite some more by the end of it!
