Rock On!

Yesterday I had the opportunity to get out of the house, meet some new people and get back into indoor rock climbing which I haven't done in a few years. As I mentioned below, I have been feeling a bit socially isolated so I joined up with Meetup.com and found a group that was doing some Indoor Rock Climbing in Berkeley at a place called The Ironworks. It was a good time. Got there around 7:00, and after some initial confusion over whether I needed to take a certification class, I was able to get up and start climbing. I used to go often when I was younger and a little bit over the summers during college when I worked in New Mexico. But recently haven't and I figured it would be a good way to get back and meet some new people. We did 4 different routes, the toughest of which was a 5.9 According to the Yosemite Decimal System (It's kinda like Dewey's crazy stoner cousin) a 5.9 is listed as "The move has only one reasonable hold which may be for either a foot or a hand." The first of the 5.9's I did, I only got about 1/2 way up, but on the second one I make it up to the top and did it pretty quickly.

It was also nice to meet new people. There were three people there and they said that they would try to keep Tuesday nights for East Bay climbing. While I may need to wait till I have some money before I go frequently, I think I will check it out again. It was a good time...nice to meet some new people and a great exercise...my hands are still sore today. Speaking of sore....just to explain my Scott luck.....after all my climbing, I tried to do some bouldering (which is basically climbing, without a rope for safety). I climbed an easy course, made it to the top and then on my climb down smashed and I mean SMASHED my funny bone into a handhold. My right arm was tingling for an hour afterwards and is stll tender this morning. Saved the best for last right!

Anyhow....good times and a good excuse to get out of the house. Blog with you later.
