This blog entry will be a bit more solemn than most so I promise that I will try to keep it on the shorter side.
Today while at Good Friday Mass, the priest made mention about a young man who was killed this past Saturday night in a hit-and-run accident more or less right outside of my apartment complex. While running the other day, I had notice a memorial wreath and was curious as to what it was for, not realizing what had happened just a few days earlier.
After hearing this story, I immediately thought of a friend of mine, Graham Dickinson, who was also tragically killed in a traffic accident while walking. This August will be the 10-year anniversary of his passing. His death was tough for me because he was a friend, younger than me, that was so full of life in everything that he did. I think his passing in part with my going away to college made me a much more religious person than I was previously. At every mass still to this day, I still say a prayer for him and try to remember the spirit of life that he kept with him everyday. His tragic passing made me appreciate the fragility of life and made me think about how things can end so suddenly such as with the young man this past weekend.
So, on this Good Friday. I ask everyone to stop and enjoy the moment for which they are living in. As the famous song in Rent quotes: "No Day, but Today." Let go of any anger or grudges that you may hold and make sure that those whom you love know that you love them. This is one of the hardest things in life to do because we always feel as if we will get another chance. But as is the case with Good Friday, life is fragile and we must make the most of every single day that we have. Thank you for letting me have this moment and my love to all of you.
